ASHLAND, Ky. — Haley Carter, who was the top-ranked women’s college singles player in the country when she was at North Carolina in 2016, earned a spot in the 32-player field of the main draw of the Braidy Industries $60,000 Women’s Tennis Classic presented by Bon Secours Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital on Sunday afternoon.

Carter beat New Zealand’s Emily Fanning in the finals of the prequalifying tournament at the Ashland Tennis Center. She fought off two set points to win the first set in a tiebreaker and took the match 7-6 (8-6), 6-3.

By making the finals Fanning earns a Wild-Card into the qualifying tournament July 22-23.

Prequalifier semifinalists Victoria Emma of Naples, Fla., and Joelle Kissell also earned Wild-Card spots for the qualifying tournament. Kissell had to decline due to another commitment, and Abigail Altick of Jackson, La., was awarded the Wild-Card in her place.

The main draw is scheduled for July 24-29 after two days of qualifying matches. All qualifying and main draw matches will be played at the Ashland Tennis Center.

Several public events and activities are scheduled for the tournament. Learn more here.
