Vladica Babic (MNE) defeated Sara Daavettila (USA) 6-0, 6-3 in her opening-round match at the Braidy Industries Tennis Classic on Tuesday.

ASHLAND, Ky. —Defending champion Gail Brodsky (USA) advanced to the round of 16 with a straight-set 6-0, 6-4 victory over En Shuo Liang as opening-round play in the Braidy Industries $60,000 Women’s Tennis Classic got under way at the Ashland Tennis Center on Tuesday.

Tournament No. 3 seed Ann Li (USA) advanced with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Hayley Carter (USA). Last year’s finalist Maegan Manasse is also among those in the main draw, along with world top 100 player Madison Brengle (USA). Both are scheduled to play their opening-round matches on Wednesday. Brengle is on the Show Court in her match against Jennifer Elie (USA) at 10 a.m.

The Tennis Classic is again part of the US Open Wild Card Challenge in 2019. Three players who played in the Ashland tournament last year — with primary sponsors of Braidy Industries and Bon Secours Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital — went on to compete in the 2018 US Open: Caroline Dolehide, Asia Muhammad, and Whitney Osuigwe. Eleven others made it to the US Open Qualifier, including champion Brodsky.

All of the 2019 Main Draw tournament matches are available via live scoring.
