ASHLAND, Ky. — The Braidy Industries $60,000 Women’s Tennis Classic will again be part of the US Open Wild Card Challenge. The tournament’s inaugural event last year included 14 players who played in the 2018 US Open and was embraced by the local Ashland community. It was awarded the Tournament of the Year by the Kentucky Tennis Association.

Three players who played in the Ashland tournament — with primary sponsors of Braidy Industries and Bon Secours Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital — went on to compete in the 2018 US Open: Caroline Dolehide, Asia Muhammad, and Whitney Osuigwe. Eleven others made it to the US Open Qualifier, including Ashland champion Gail Brodsky.

In additional to the main singles and doubles draw, the 2019 Braidy Industries Tennis Classic will host a prequalifier and qualifier tournaments. Public events, including a day-long kids sports clinic and FitFest, will return as well.

All of the Main Draw tournament matches will again be available via live scoring. The Feature Match of the Day and the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals will be broadcast live online at ashlandprotennis.com. All matches and activities will be at the Ashland Tennis Center July 20-28.

US Open Wild Card Challenge

The USTA will be awarding one women’s main draw wild card into 2019 US Open based on performance in specific ITF World Tennis Tour events and specific WTA Tour events. The wild card will be awarded to the American player with the highest total of cumulative WTA singles ranking points from their best three results – including points earned in qualifying and main draw.
