ASHLAND, Ky. — The Braidy Industries $60,000 Women’s Tennis Classic is set for its third straight year at the Ashland Tennis Center. The 2020 tournament will be July 26 to Aug. 2 with public events again planned to coincide with the professional tournament.

Australian Ellen Perez (AUS) withstood grueling heat and claimed the 2019 championship 6-2, 3-2 in a retirement against Zoe Hives (AUS) last July. Perez was the tournament’s No. 7 seed and beat 2018’s finalist Maegan Manasse (USA) in the quarterfinals. She had a three-set victory over Katie Swan (GRB) in the semifinals and another three-setter against Catherine Harrison in the round of 16.

The Ashland doubles championship was won by American pair Sanaz Marand (USA) and Caitlin Whoriskey (USA), who defeated Vladica Babic (MNE) and Julia Rosenqvist (SWE) 7-6(4) 6-4.

The 2018 Tennis Classic was awarded the Tournament of the Year by the Kentucky Tennis Association. American Gail Brodsky won the 2018 singles championship, her first $60,000 USTA Pro Circuit title.

The Pro Circuit hosts tour-level competition for aspiring players and also attracts established professionals.

The tournament’s title sponsor, Braidy Industries, returns this year.

In additional to the main singles and doubles draw, the Tennis Classic will host a prequalifier and qualifier tournaments. Public events, including a day-long kids sports clinic, will return as well.
